The naturally high and clear-toned sound of lyric tenor Simo Mäkinen (born 1982) is enhanced by his energetic stage presence and his versatile musicianship.
During his studies (in Sibelius Academy, Helsinki, and the Royal Academy, Copenhagen) and through his participation in numerous masterclasses, Simo developed a real affinity for the music of J.S. Bach and of Benjamin Britten, and he found his voice was also very well suited to modern repertoire. Since Simo's Finnish National Opera debut in 2010, he has performed more than 20 opera roles, including the title role in Britten's Albert Herring. In addition to his extensive experience in opera, Simo is also a sought-after and accomplished oratorio singer (specialising in Bach's Passions) and he is just as proficient and skilled within the chamber music repertoire. |
